Danielle is a Registered and Licensed Dietitian who specializes in the treatment of disordered eating and eating disorders. She is committed to the use of therapeutic tools and strategies to support her client's health and medical conditions while helping clients build a compassionate relationship with food and their body. Danielle partners with her clients, to move them through the space between no longer and not yet.
Danielle has worked in the field of nutrition, since 2004 and has worked with eating disorders since 2012. She understands the impact eating has on the mind and body and believes that nutrition does not need to be extreme to provide a positive outcome. Danielle practices a weight-neutral and inclusive approach to nutrition counseling. She does NOT prescribe or recommend restrictive diets for the purpose of weight loss. She WILL provide evidence informed, scientifically proven therapeutic meal plans for people with specific medical conditions, such as celiac disease, diabetes, food allergies, eating disorders, etc.; the sole goal of such a prescribed meal plans is to manage a specific medical or mental health condition(s).
Throughout her professional journey, she has worked in various & diverse arenas all across the country. Danielle as worked with adults and adolescents struggling with eating disorders, at the Partial Hospitalization and Intensive Outpatient levels of care in Washington and Texas. She has lead inner-city health initiatives, including Farm to School programs and nutrition dissemination within The School District of Philadelphia. Danielle has partnered with the Public Health Department of Philadelphia to bring nutritious food to urban food deserts. Passionate about working with those who serve our country, Danielle volunteered her time, and later did her internship within the Veterans Affairs Healthcare Systems across the state of California. She also worked with children of all ages at the Children's Hospital of Los Angeles.
She understands how through food we connect to our culture, community, and ourselves; and how that connection can be disrupted leading us down a path of isolation, mistrust in our body, hypercriticism of food, and over evaluation of weight and body shape. Often times food becomes the thing that separates us from engaging and rather than being a source of nourishment to becomes a source of discomfort, shame and even fear.
Danielle’s personal and professional drive is to help people let go of the hypercritical internal dialogue, find the fun in food, reconnect (or for some connect for the first time) to their authentic voice, their body and engage in life, around food, without guilt and/or shame.
Danielle acknowledges that each person’s food and body journey is unique and very personal. She understands how hard behavior change can be and will implement the best in evidence informed care to restore health through sustainable physical and psychological medical nutrition therapy while using a non-judgmental, compassionate, patient centered, trauma informed nutritional counseling style.
When working with clients diagnosed with eating disorders, in order to coordinate consistent communication needed for recovery, Danielle will ask about and does strongly encourage collaboration with a multidisciplinary treatment team. Multidisciplinary treatment teams consist of a medical doctor, psychiatrist, and therapist each trained in working with eating disorders. If you do not have a multidisciplinary treatment team, Danielle will provide you with referrals, to help knowledgeable practitioner that will help guide you through your recovery journey.
